MOCHE COW

This piece was inspired by ceramics of the Moche. The Moche civilization in Peru (c. 100-800 AD) did not have any written language. We know their stories today by the way they were depicted in ceramics, an everlasting medium. The recurring use of animals (sometimes with human qualities), for example show how much they were valued and glorified by the Moche.

The Moche’s distinct spout or stirrup spout design is incorporated in this piece, as well as their practice of making sculptural pieces with earthenware clay

WABI SABI CUBE, CYLINDER, AND CONE

These three pieces were inspired by Wabi Sabi, a Japanese philosophy of beauty. Pieces of art are utilitarian and simple, their aesthetics art not paid attention to in the process; they should evoke emotions by their touch. Each of the bowls takes on the one of the original forms: a cylinder, a cube, and a cone. I incorporated different types of textures while hand building these pieces.
